- In May 2008 I left my full-time position to invent a new organization called Seminary of the Street, which is now up and running, or at least, up and staggering. It's a training academy of sorts for people who want to make the connection between their own spiritual development and the change they want to see in the world. Seminary of the Street emerged because I was working on the Strategy of Generosity in foreign policy at the NSP (www.spiritualprogressives.org), and so many people said to me, "This is great, to get countries to be more generous, but I still can't be generous in my own life." How do we do the inner work and the outer work simultaneously? That's what we're trying to figure out together at Seminary of the Street. We're forming a community of people who want to start creating an alternative sustainable culture from within the empire.
In practical terms, I spend a lot of time on my laptop in cafes, drinking too much coffee just to cover the cost of my electricity and Internet usage.
When I'm not doing that, I enjoy walking aimlessly around Oakland; communing with all the cats in my neighborhood; randomly reading Craig's List; seeing movies; reading; writing; hiking; biking; kayaking (inexpertly); exploring new neighborhoods, towns, and cities.
